Aim: By 31st October 2026, every member of each section, group and unit within Deal and Dover Scouts will have had the opportunity to take part in the KENT SCOUTS BIG SLEEPOUT FOR PORCHLIGHT. The aim is to raise awareness and funds for Porchlight whilst providing young people with a meaningful Community Impact activity linked to Scouting values and social action.

Methods Of Participation:

• MEETING NIGHTS: Hold a homelessness awareness evening as part of your programme – watch some Porchlight videos and discuss the issues.
• FUNDRAISERS: Hold a quiz, raffle, bake/jumble/yard sale, car wash, sponsored walk, run, cycle or swim for Porchlight during October.
• SLEEPOVERS: This can be as Individuals, Patrols, Sections, Groups, Units or attending the District Sleepover (More details below). Squirrels or beavers may wish to build a den to sleep in at home. Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Networkers are encouraged to sleep rough with a sleeping bag and cardboard boxes in a safe supervised location.

Date & Time: 4.30pm on Saturday 24^th October to 8am on Sunday 25^th October 2026.

Venue: The Duke of Yorks Royal Military School, Guston, Dover, Kent CT15 5EQ.

Programme: Arrival 16:30; Opening Ceremony 17:00; Cardboard shelter builds 17:15; Hotdogs and soup 19:00; Porchlight presentation 20:00; Wide game 21:00; Scout’s Own & Reflection 22:00; Free time 22:10; Sleepout 23:00-06:30; Bacon rolls 07:00; Closing Ceremony 08:00; Pickup 09:00.
